Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) continues to be one of most important causes of health careassociated infections. Its ubiquity and increasing vancomycin nonsusceptibility have contributed to the complexity of treatment of infections caused by this pathogen. Guidelines on the therapeutic monitoring of vancomycin and treatment of MRSA infections were recently issued by the Infectious Disease Society of America. In the advent of the issuance of these guidelines, a symposium on the “Treatment of MRSA Infections in Taiwan” was held in early

Prevalence of Vancomycin Resistance in Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus

Background & Aims: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common pathogens in nosocomial infections. Vancomycin is the most important therapeutic drug of choice for treatment of infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains. Therefore, vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) or vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA) strains are warning...
